I earned my medical degree and completed my residency training at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. From there, I moved out west to complete a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). After completing fourteen years of higher-level education, I had an extensive career working as a Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist in a San Francisco-based group psychiatric practice. In my decade-long tenure there, I also held several leadership positions including Director of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry; Director of Diversity & Inclusion; and Clinical Manager.
An informal, yet very important, part of my training has been learning that the traditional medical system has left very few mental health resources for Black people in America. Unfortunately, even less for Queer Black individuals. I have experienced this both personally and professionally. This is what inspired me to found Queer Black Angels (QBA). I am divinely invested in helping us heal and grow, to walk in - and live out - our individual and collective truths and purpose. Why? Because we deserve it.
Peace + blessings.

I am Robbie Joseph, MD and founder of Queer Black Angels (QBA), a psychotherapy-focused psychiatric practice using a blend of various medical disciplines to help clients find healing in their own lives. We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. I also proudly wear the labels of Haitian-American, partner, husband, father, and friend.

Like the path of most Black doctors, mine too, was non-linear. I worked tirelessly, with the constant reminder from my Caribbean parents and society, to get accepted to Brown University’s distinguished eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) where I earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Ethnic Studies.
Personally, I love nature and spending time with her. I am an artist and love to express my joy through singing, dancing, and performance. They are not just hobbies. Without these creative outlets, I could not be an excellent doctor. As essential parts of my health and wellness, they support my continued healing and growth by facilitating balance with my body, mind, heart, spirit, and soul.
I am interested in working with clients who are intentional about wanting to heal, grow, and have a positive impact on this world.
